Camping has been around for a long while and it is still a popular way to go on holiday. It is a unique experience which is unlike any other way of spending your holiday and is definitely something people should try at least once in their lives. 1. It’s cheaper
Hotels are very expensive because you have to pay for all the staff and facilities in the hotel. Camping is cheaper because the running costs of a campsite are significantly less, and plus, this way you’re saving money. Yes, buying the equipment you need to go camping can be a little expensive, but once you’ve got the equipment the world is your oyster, which leads us on to our second reason…
Can’t decide on where to stay? Want to keep moving around to see more? Camping makes this easy to do. A tent is portable so you can pitch up at one site for a few nights, see the local sights and then move on to another location.
Campsites tend to be any from the hustle and bustle of towns and cities, which means they are lovely and quiet. If you’re tired of the busy noisy 9 – 5 life then going camping is perfect, because you won’t find better peace and quiet than sitting outside your tent, sipping a mug of hot chocolate while watching the sun set.
4. Tech detox
Camping means no electricity, no electricity means no television, computer, or tablet, etc. This allows you get to take a break from it all. Imagine having a week where there is no beeping devices demanding you attention, it’s the perfect way to relax.
5. Quality bonding time
With no distractions from either technology or a busy city there is a lot more time to spend with the people you are camping with. Living in close proximity and spending the whole holiday together means that when the holiday ends you and everyone you’re camping with will be a lot closer to each other (or you’ll want to kill each other, but lets focus on the positive).
6. Get a tan
Even if you’re very pale you will tan when you go camping. This is simply because when camping you will spend most of your time outdoors, which means more sunshine, which means a tan.
7. Make new friends
When you’re in a hotel everyone is in their separate rooms, it’s likely you’ll never actually know who is staying in the room next door. But when you’re camping everyone is outside their tents for a lot of the time, making camping the perfect opportunity to meet new people and make new friends.
8. Notice new things
Without all the distractions of modern-day life, added to the fact that you will be spending more time outside than normal, you will notice new things. For instance you might see new wildlife because there’s no noise to scare them away. Also, camping is the time to get the best view of the night sky – because campsites are out of towns and cities there is practically no light pollution, which means when night arrives and the stars come out you will see more than you have ever seen before. Alternatively, you’ll actually start the day in the morning.
It’s a simple thing, but something you can only really do properly when camping. Sitting around a campfire in the evening you can tell stories, chat and maybe even have a sing-song. It combines all the great things about the previous reasons into one ideal of what camping can be. If you do want make a campfire, please check that the campsite allows campfires first.
And of course marshmallows. One of the best things about camping is sitting outside in the evening toasting marshmallows over a campfire. It’s an amazing childlike joy and who doesn’t love making s’mores?
